Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens, black by Minoru Chikamatsu ᠌

The product is of good quality, there is only one minor defect.

I concur with the assessment that this model of Canon's L is their most divisive offering. I get everything, in 2006, it was exceedingly difficult to make an ideal picture at such an aperture, but in 2019, the lens can let you down. I do not have any regrets about making the purchase, however for those who are thinking about it, here are some things I think you should take into consideration: The idea of a sharp frame for a certain lens can vary from one to the next. You will be presented with options such as "not soft, but blurry," "sharp, but soft," and "sharp, not soft, but powerful HA," and you will be required to make a selection. In relation to the aforementioned, the automation of the camera is having special difficulty with focusing, and keep in mind that we are discussing the most advanced "single-digit" model here. On semi-professional and lower class cameras, practice has shown that it is better not to install a lens at all in order to avoid getting 60% of defective frames. This is because semi-professional cameras have less processing power than lower class cameras. - Mirror focus is substantially less accurate than its mirrorless counterpart. During times of difficulty, I suggest making use of it. -This is the lens in which Dual pixel RAW will perform well because of its ability to refocus during processing. -The amount of focus point shift, which is sufficient to save or improve a number of frames due to the very small depth of field. Concerns have been raised over the design's dependability and longevity. It does not make a creaking sound like the 50/1.8, but it also does not give the impression that it is a solid block like many of the other brethren in the class. You should keep in mind that this is a lens designed for a specific purpose, similar to a TS-E or MP-E. If you shoot everything, it is quite doubtful that you would be able to create works of art with them; however, if you identify your photographic niche, you will be able to produce extremely cool photos that are inaccessible to others who do not have it.

Pros
  • Full frame - Pleasant drawing, especially expressive looking in black and white - The quickest autofocus lens currently available on the market today - With a maximum sharpness of /3.2, the lens no longer functions as a portrait lens since it begins to reveal even the minutest of details, and the skin of any real person is never perfectly smooth.
Cons
  • -Highly impressive HA, significantly higher than that of many non-L lenses. aperture has almost no effect on the phenomenon. - Superb sharpness even when stopped down to /1.2 - Problems with the autofocus system. With the 5D Mark 3, around 55% of the frames were sharp; on the mark 4, this number rose to 70%. - For some inexplicable reason, an antiquated optical design was implemented, according to which focusing is achieved through the general movement of the complete optical system. In this regard, you will need to install a filter in order to protect yourself against the weather.
