Great for a bucket but not great for a small pool

I bought one of these to heat the water in a 10 x 5 foot inflatable paddling pool. The water from the hose to fill is pretty cold and I was hoping one of those heaters would help get it to a good temperature. I used a long piece of wood to try to partially suspend the heater in water (do not submerge, the black parts are not waterproof). After an hour in the water the sensations didn't change, perhaps the heat loss to the air/ground was faster than this heater could compensate. Instead, I filled a plastic bucket with pool water and inserted a heating element. After 5 minutes the water in the bucket got hot. I dropped it back into the pool and repeated the process a few more times. It wasn't perfect, but it worked well.
