A Beautiful Genuin Leather Fountain Pen Case with Drawbacks

This beautiful case for fountain pens or other similar items is made from real genuine leather and not PU leather which I supposed at the price of $30.00 it truly would be. This rust colored case is called a fountain pen case but it can just as well hold styli or any other similar tools of the trade so to speak. It is opened and closed with a fairly heavy-duty zipper that probably will not wear after many uses over time. However, this little beauty has one big problem. inside, there is nothing to hold the fountain pens or styli in place. Any fountain pen case, and I am a veterate fountain pen collector, will have a slot or slit on which to slip the pens’ clip over to hold them in place which would keep the pens from falling out when opening the case. Sadly, the makers of this case simply did not think of this. So, I suggest that if you do keep expensive fountain pens in the case you open the case with great care and on a bed or something soft so that when they fall out, they won’t get bruised or broken.I know for a fact that many fountain pens can run from $150.00 all the way to $10,000.00 and more. And the last thing I would want is to open this case and have a very expensive pen drop to the floor. Because of this very small oversight that has caused a BIG problem, I found it better that this case be used for holding my various styli. If one drops to my wood floors, at the most no real damage will occur.I just have to think that not having thought this through, they never intended this to hold fountain pens when they developed this case, but later tagged it a fountain pen case because it sounded good. Well my good friends and neighbors, it’s best that we change the purpose of this case to hold styli for the reasons I have mentioned. As to its durability, I cannot speak to this at this time, but I do believe that with a little care, it will last a good 10 years or so. The case has nothing inside to make it very sturdy. The liner is nothing more than a simple nylon or other similar lining. I believe the manufacturers could have made the case a little bit more sturdy by placing something more durable between the case’s interior and the lining. But to do so would have jacked the price up quite considerably and I honestly believe that the goal here was to keep the price point at the level they have it now. With luxury comes a high price. Had this been a case from Coach or better yet Louis Vuitton, the price would have been in the hundreds of dollars. So, what this case brings to the buyer is a really nice leather case with drawbacks as I have explained. I don’t know, but I believe I would rather the higher quality with a higher price than what a $30.00 case brings to the table. I would have liked to carry three or even four fountain pens in a secure case rather than a case for styli.

Pros
  • Beautiful workmanship!!!!! Wish there had been straps to hold multiple pens in place. Great otherwise!
Cons
  • It may be difficult to fit into smaller bags or purses
