Review on Galaxy Bowitzki 3.5G Cream Multi-Chrome Eyeshadow: Color-Shifting, Longer-Lasting, No Creasing Shimmer Makeup With Chameleon Gel Technology by Vera Hernandez

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Amazing & beautiful…UNTIL it completely dries up within 5 months

I got another one of these in a different shade (Nebula) and absolutely loved it, so when I saw more I was excited! This time I got the shade "Galaxy.” UNFORTUNATELY, at the time I got this one I hadn’t used my other one in about a month. I went to use it and found it COMPLETELY dried up - it had totally solidified! I had only had it for about 5 month. I always kept the seal on and lid on tight. I’ve had pot gel liners and cream eyeshadow dry out before but after at least a year. When it would happen, I’d be able to revive it. But, unfortunately no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get "Nebula” to work again. It just stayed solid. It’s a shame because it worked so well and was so beautiful. At first I thought $18.99 for this jar wasn’t bad at all because it only takes a little bit so it would last for a loooong time. But, since it dries out so quick, $18.99 is pretty darn pricey! Unless you’re going to use it every single day for the first few months, and even then I don’t see you using all the product up. So, unfortunately, I know what the future holds for this one, "Galaxy.” Since I know it, I’m going to try to figure out a way to keep it from happening. Like I said before, with the other one I kept the seal it came with on and kept the lid closed tight at all times and it still dried out. So, I’m kind of hoping it’s just faulty packaging and somehow air still gets inside of it. So, hopefully I’m able to stop that from happening? Time will tell. But, regardless, at $18.99 (current marked down price from $20.99), you shouldn’t have to try to take your own measures to keep it from drying out in a few months. The packaging it comes in should do that. This comes in an outer product box. The ingredients are listed on the side. It is made in China. The product page says it is smudge proof, paraben free, vegan, and cruelty free. I didn’t see anything on the packaging saying anything about being cruelty free or logos. But, that doesn’t mean it isn’t.For use it says, "Take a tiny amount of Shadow Potion with a flat brush. Apply to the desired area with light pressure.” I’m not sure what "Shadow Potion.” It kind of sounds like something you mix this with, but it doesn’t say anything about mixing, so it’s more like these are called "Shadow Potion.” But, the product info just calls them Multichrome Eyeshadow. There’s nothing calling them "Shadow Potion” except for when it’s talking about how to use it.It comes in a plastic jar. The lid screws off. There is a plastic seal with a little tab to use to pull it up. With the other one, I was really happy to see the plastic seal since a lot of products like this come with tinfoil seals that you’re supposed to just take off and throw out, but then the product has a chance of drying out. So, I loved this had the plastic cover and figured it would help keep it from drying out! But, like I said before, it did end up drying out. The jar isn’t filled up. The product page says that the item weighs 3 grams. With products like this, especially when it comes to multichromes, it’s sold by weight. That is why sometimes some will be more filled than others. One color mixture weighs more than another color mixture, so it seems like you get more product with one than the other. For me, with both my jars, they were filled up decently well and I thought it would last for a loooooong time because it only takes such a small amount with each use!The first shade I got, "Nebula,” was a reddish purple to brighten purple with green and gold. This shade, "Galaxy,” is a kind of teal, royal blue, purple mix. It’s really beautiful! I find this one and the "Nebula” one are common multichrome shades. My guess is since they show the shifts so well, which is why I like them so much! It’s a cream so it glides on easily. It dries down quickly then it’s set in place and doesn’t move. You have a little bit of time to kind of work and blend the crease area in, but it does set pretty quickly. It can crease if you have really oily lids, but if you use a glitter glue or an eyeshadow primer I found it helps a lot.Overall, I think this is beautiful! Multichromes are usually pretty expensive. I thought this was priced pretty well for what you get, how a little goes a long way so I thought it would last a really long time, and how well it works. But, given the fact it dries out within 5 months to an unusable rock, I can’t really recommend it. Even if you used it every single day for those 5 months, you’d still have a ton of product left by time it dried out. If I can find a way to keep this one from drying out like the other one, I’ll update my review. But, for now, I can only give it 2 stars. I was going to give it 1, but it works amazing when it’s working, so I’m going to go with 2 stars.

Pros
  • The longer-lasting formula means you won't have to worry about touch-ups throughout the day
Cons
  • The chameleon gel technology is not eco-friendly and harmful to the environment
