Review on ARRIS Surfboard S33 Multi Gigabit Ethernet by Chris Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Here's what it looks like: Networking Products

I recently upgraded my Arris 6141 modem The Arris 6141 gave me inconsistent speed when not connected. It couldn't handle the Ultra 400Mbps plan with Spectrum. On the Arris 6141, I maxed out at 250Mbps/18Mbps on a 400Mbps plan and speeds were very inconsistent. In fact, it has become obsolete over the years of use. Arris S33 is a dream car. It consistently supports the new Spectrum Ultra speeds of 458 Mbps downstream and 18.4 Mbps upstream. I use a Google Nest router with 3 wired ethernet washing machines and a wireless Google Wifi washing machine in the garage. All my smart devices have become more responsive. I have 8 Nest outdoor cameras paired with 2 Nest Hub Max devices using the highest recording quality and now they work like butter. I use over 40 smart home devices and so far everything is running smoothly. I wish I had upgraded to an Arris S33 a few months ago. I work from home and the old Arris 6141 was enough for me. Helpful Hints: Arris S33 is easy to switch from your old modem to Spectrum. You don't need to call! Call up the .spectrum.net activation page with your iPhone or Android. Write down the MAC address of your new modem. Connect the new Arris S33 modem to the existing coaxial cable and network via Ethernet. S33 MAC on the Spectrum website portal. Stay on the same screen: It takes a few minutes to prepare and restart your S33 modem. After the S33 modem was activated I rebooted my S33 modem + Google Nest router + Google Wifi pucks and TP-Link ethernet switch. Update: I'm currently getting 480Mbps downstream and 21Mbps upstream over wired ethernet on my PC and Nvidia Shields. . S33 feels warm but not hot. Arris 6141 felt hot. I haven't encountered any T3/T4 blackout on the S33 that seemed to bother the 6141. Now I'm curious if it was my 6141 with T3/T4 timeouts and blackouts, not spectrum blackouts. My parents still had a Spectrum Internet when I had outages, so I think it was definitely the Arris 6141. If you plan to upgrade and secure your network in the future, this is a good choice for a modem.
