Review on High Capacity EPSON T802 DURABrite Ultra Black Ink Cartridge For WorkForce Pro Printers by Dennis Chase

Revainrating 3 out of 5

They work very well. They are silly expensive. What to do?

I have two Epson all-in-ones, a WF-3730 and WF-3740, both taking the same ink cartridges. The printers do what I need them to do and replaced a Canon and an HP, both all-in-ones also. I do very little printing of anything but twice a year I print a few hundred party invitations for our homeowners’ association as well as envelopes. These full-color invites go through a lot of ink, especially the colors, so I started buying the XL versions. The good news: the cartridges are stupid simple to replace, they fit perfectly, they satisfy Epson’s internal software, and the resulting print is very good quality. In my opinion the output is sharper and better than either of my previous printers by a good margin. Photos on matte photo papers are also excellent quality with sharp definition, true color rendering when compared to the image, and even better on glossy paper. The cartridge packaging is relatively easy to open unlike those enclosed in a clear plastic shell embedded in a much larger piece of cardboard, and doesn’t require tools (scissors, kitchen knife, machete, chain saw) to open. The bad: stupid, silly expensive, and even more so than XL cartridges for my previous printers. In fairness, I do think I get more copies, but I’ve never counted to make an actual comparison. And as others have mentioned, is a color cartridge runs out, your printer becomes useless as even black-only printing will not work.So what do to? If you print occasionally and not very much, the inkjet technology will work for you and you will end up eating the high cartridge costs as a necessary evil. If you do a lot more printing, inkjets become uneconomical in comparison to laser printing even in color. The higher cost of the laser printer will be offset by lower toner costs (per printed page, toner cartridges are expensive too). I haven’t reached that volume and don’t expect to so I buy the XL ink cartridges, grumble about it each and every time, and get on with my life.

Pros
  • Good quality Printing. Item got delivered on time.
Cons
  • Doesn't always last as long as advertised
