Works on my 2017 MacBook Pro

I bought a MacBook Pro in March 2017. It has four USB-C ports but no SD card slot like my latest MacBook Pro. I use a DSLR to take pictures for a blog I write for and didn't want to mess around with cable adapters to connect the camera to my computer, so I went with this card reader (with USB-C connector) instead . I only use the SD card slot. This works with my computer. It fits the port snugly, is lightweight and the cable isn't very long so it stays pretty close to your computer on the desk rather than hanging to the side (I never actually use my computer on my lap). It is plug and play without drivers. The card can be easily inserted into the card reader and removed again. I don't know how to measure the reading speed, but I can open 20 or 30 large (1466px wide) photos in Photoshop on my computer from the card and have no problems, so I assume this card reader is working as intended Criticism I have is that sometimes my computer doesn't understand that I have inserted a card and I have to take it out and put it back in. I never had to do this more than once, so it's not a big deal, but it stopped me from giving it a full five stars. The map shows up on my desktop as an untitled drive. It needs to be ejected like any external drive (just removing the card will do; you don't need to remove the entire card reader), or your computer will give you an error message (if you're using a Mac anyway). Overall I'm happy with the purchase and would buy the same again if I had to rebuild it.

Pros
  • Works great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
