Review on Liberty Pumps 237 Discharge Submersible by Alex Tilden

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great, quiet pump that fits in a standard 5 gallon bucket.

I bought this pump to replace a cheaper, smaller pump. I didn't really need a new pump, the old one worked fine. but we are selling our house and the home inspector mentioned it so I thought I could forestall a buyer's concerns. This is a great looking pump with a solid reputation. It seems really well done, and that's serious. I checked it. Another issue with our home inspector was that our old pump was simply dumped in the pit by the previous owners. So I dug a hole and put a 5 gallon bucket from the hardware store in it. I drilled about 50 different sized holes in the bucket. Small holes at the bottom and big holes at the top. This pump is perfect for a standard 5 gallon bucket. There is no room in the bucket for a check valve on the 1.5" pipe, although it almost fits. So I just put a short piece of tubing over the pump and ran a check valve at the top of the bucket. It's only about 8 inches tall, so if there's a lot of water there's no need to worry. If you need a drainage pump for your basement, this is a great choice. You could go all cast iron for a few bucks more. But it probably won't fit in a standard bucket, so you'll need to buy a proper sump. they cost $60 instead of $6. Otherwise the pumps are the same in my opinion.
