IDEAL solution! on cat doors, fences & stairs

I haven't had a cat for 3 years, wanted to have one but there is no really comfortable place to put a toilet. Also, no matter what your cat's diet, this litter box will smell and litter will fall on the floor/carpet etc. Weak moment, a friend's neighbor leaves the cat and leaves. A friend now has a cat. Since she knows I'm a former cat owner, I'm her main target. In short, I buckle up and agree to take the cat with me. Where to put trays!?!?! POOH! I can find all sorts of creative garbage-fighting ideas on Google. I'm too stingy to buy a self-cleaning box for 100.00 - I can clean the box - the odor and dirt leaking problem persists. I decided to build a shit cage in my garage and put in a cat door. After reading the reviews I bought this Cat Mate door and wall trim. The door is installed in the laundry room, through which you can go to the barn in the garage. Mission accomplished. The dog doesn't eat cat poo, the cat has its own space and best of all: I don't have a litter box at home. :) Beautiful construction and great quality (30.00 for the cat door and pipe) - I'm more than happy with the quality. Recommend a spirit level, circle the stencil on the wall, and cut inside the stencil. Just know right away - the hole will be too small, but that's okay - it's better to be too small than too big, because there is a serious problem with the lack of space for screw holes! (Read this in other reviews and I'm so glad they mentioned this issue!) I recently purchased an inexpensive ($50.00) oscillating saw from Home Depot. Internal drywall cutouts were a breeze - simple and straightforward. After first cutting an opening in the garage wall, I had to insert a door, then cut a bit, "dry fit" the door, and when I fitted the door just perfectly, I attempted to thread the wall paneling. Well, I had to cut some more to fit the wall trim to the outside frame of the pet door (garage/non-latching side of the pet door). The oscillating saw allowed me to make these very fine adjustments quickly. Yes, you can use a drywall saw or box cutter, but if you're cutting MDF you'll be glad you bought the osc. seen. It's time to bolt the frame. Spring. this is where it gets interesting. There is SO little space between the screw hole and the actual hole - screwing it into the wall on all four corners is a work of art. Don't worry this is going nowhere because IF you carefully cut a hole you will create a hole large enough for this liner to fit through and the liner will fit snugly and snugly into the pet door frame on both. Pages. With correct and snug assembly, I can't imagine the thing ever falling apart, so I'm NOT worried about the brittleness of the bolting. Cat Mate Wall Lining eliminates a gap between the "inner" half of the pet. door and the "outside" edge of the pet door. It also keeps the device VERY snug in the wall. Remember that your outside walls are thicker than your inside walls, and without the liner, the insulation will be exposed in that 1+ inch gap. That's probably not a good thing, plus cats need good things, they do, so you should have a clean, safe tunnel for them to walk through. With all the changes for a new foster cat (new house, different food, bathroom, etc.) I didn't want to risk her showing up. she had to stick her nose in the cat door so i just taped it open for a few weeks. After she settled in and got acquainted with us/the dog, I removed the tape. a little nudge (okay, cat pushed through the door, wheeled into the garage, pushed back into the house - carefully, mind you, carefully) - a few times in / in / in / in, she finally understood "Oh, that is not bad." and now the door doesn't really matter. I love that you can lock the door or make it one way. In my case, the pet door is a portal to Lee's planet. tter box means this lock will never be used. :) The kit includes a cat (a happy customer), a garage cage before I installed the cage door (this is where the cat door comes out - the location of the tray), the side with the lock of the cat door and the side of the outer wall (where you can actually see that this wall insert is needed). Sorry for the shaky angle and yes the garage wall is painted. :)

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • I don't like anything about it, everything is fine
