Review on RecPro RV Tankless Water Heater: On Demand Hot Water, Gas-Powered & Remote Control - Black by Matthew Guiney

Not perfect, but a good upgrade

We installed this in our travel trailer to replace our 6 gallon water heater. Instructions are vague, but if you are handy you can get through it. I did not like that they ask you to go purchase the over-temp/over-pressure safety valve instead of supplying it with the unit. But we got one from our local hardware store and got it installed on the unit. We did have to slightly enlarge the hole in our campers outer wall to get the new unit to slide in but that’s not the manufacturers fault. What really disappointed me was that when we received the unit, it was NOT a RecPro brand and the box had previously been opened and it had water in the lines! It was an aftermarket brand that I can’t even pronounce the name of but it looked like the RecPro. I was desperate so I decided to try it. These are obviously not a perfect science yet. Water temperature does fluctuate a little during the shower but that could be due to the temperature of the water coming into the unit, pressure of the water coming into the unit, and pressure of your regulator for your propane bottles. We found that if the furnace (or any other propane appliance) is running at the same time as this hot water heater then they will compete with each other for propane and the water will not reach the set temp. We turn off our furnace temporarily while we shower and it works much better. All-in-all, we are happy with the unit. It’s much better than the 6 gallon unit we removed.

Pros
  • The heater is easy to install and saves time and money
Cons
  • May require frequent adjustments to maintain proper gas flow
