Killed Drivers and Smoked Randomly EDIT Still Alive

I had been the using the SKR 2 for printing a little. Today I got a TMC Connection Error. I found it was the E driver, so I replaced the driver. Started the printer back up and it worked until I had to fail a print. Rebooted and I got another TMC Connection Error. I found it was the Z axis, so I replaced the driver. Then I rebooted, I heard a crack, and I immediately turned off the power. White smoke emitted from the rear of the board. I removed all the drivers and the board booed. All the drivers were then tested and they were all dead. I tried replacing one driver on the z with a working driver and rebooting, but there was no motion. All drivers were installed correctly and it seems I have a Version B board, so I am not sure what happened. This is my second BTT board that has died on me.EditI tried installing old A4988 drivers, changed the firmware, and the drivers worked. Then I bought new TMC2209 drivers, changed the firmware, installed them one at a time, and the printer is working. While I am disappointed that the board smoked $40 of drivers, I was happy to see that it has protections in place to keep the board from going bad even while the drivers are destroyed. I might buy the SKR2 again in the future.

Pros
  • The SKR 3 EZ board is capable of supporting the latest stepper driver models, including EZ2209, EZ5160, and EZ2130
Cons
  • The lack of detailed instructions may cause confusion during the installation process
