Review on πŸ“± Unlocked Sony Xperia 5 II Smartphone by Jamel Ochoa

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Expensive but still underdeveloped

It's quite expensive but still suffers from some serious shortcomings. My biggest annoyance is that the phone doesn't switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. Mode. That means when I go out of range of my home Wi-Fi, the phone almost never automatically switches to mobile data - I have to toggle Airplane mode on and off quickly to connect to the internet. I assume this is just a software issue and maybe it will be fixed in the future. The second really frustrating issue is the fingerprint reader - it's inaccurate and very sensitive to the condition of my fingers. When the skin on your fingers gets too dry, it stops working. If the skin is too wet (e.g. after a shower), the reader will also not work. I suspect this is because the scanner is too narrow to be really accurate, so I doubt it can be fixed later. The third downside is the physical Google Assistant button - it's mostly useless and is often accidentally pressed in place of the camera button. The latter is without a doubt one of the advantages of the phone. Another downside is the slim body - there aren't that many flagships on the market with non-scooped bodies. As well as support for two SIM cards - extremely important for me personally. It's a lot bigger than most other phones, but that doesn't bother me at all. In addition, "Photo Pro" becomes very convenient - most of the settings fit on the screen along with the picture itself. The overall impression is still a solid and well-made cell phone. But I think Sony could do a lot better for the same (high) price. UPDATE: As I suspected, the cellular data switch issue was magically fixed a while ago, so I'm not experiencing it at the moment. BUT. The fingerprint scanner is an absolute PAIN for me. I have already re-registered my fingerprints several times. Immediately after re-registering, it works fine for a couple of days, but then the quality and accuracy of the scan begins to rapidly decrease. This is very annoying. Unfortunately, taking into account other small things, I cannot give this device more than three stars, despite its camera quality.

Pros
  • Pleasing
Cons
  • Mostly good but...
