Review on πŸ”§ OTC 6297 Ball Joint Separator Tool by Joshua Castillo

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Bad design, bad materials

Compared to models of this type and price and the one I got with this work, this thing seems small and looks kinda bad on the seams and similar sides sewn out but The main screw may seem sturdy but in reality the screw isn't as beefy as it should be given how much force this thing has to expend for its purpose, not to mention that the end of the screw that holds the spacer touched, shiny chrome, fixed, almost a ball bearing? So there's never direct contact and pressure because if the smooth, expansive material is the moment you actually start tightening it, the screw will move sideways or straight back because it's a rounded surface on a smooth surface , which tries to make a square and stable direct contact. Eventually this part of the design is awful in my opinion couldn't hold it straight no matter how hard you tried so even damn tight there isn't much on the joint all the pressure and energy is lost and wasted on twists and screw the thing if not in order and press on nothing. Not to mention putting some elbow grease on it and really tightening it up (as square as I could get it), bending the center pivot into a real arc shape and also bending the whole bolt so that after one try of use it was junk and didn't even move the joint. Overall, it simply doesn't meet a sufficient standard of quality or strength to handle the effort required for its intended purpose. Also, the poor design of the main bolt makes the tool's function basically even unattainable, so honestly go for something more expensive, you don't need to go crazy, but it's cheap, too cheap for something that needs to be that strong, I'll add adding a photo of him next to another for comparison of how anemic he is in every way

Pros
  • Great fit for me
Cons
  • Not the best
