Jungle Moc Black Skin Disappointing

My boy has been a fan of Merrell shoes since he was 3 years old. He wears his Merrells every day. We bought him a Jungle Moc (black) leather size 2 for his first day of school. He wore them every day, 4 days a week, and within a month (first week of October) the toes of the boots were cracked and peeling off. Very disappointed. These are the first Merrells to fall apart in this way. I even cleaned them everyday with a leather cleaner so he could wear "new" shoes every morning, but my care efforts didn't help prevent the socks from falling apart. The shoes themselves are very comfortable. I tried them on myself and they fit me so I could feel how comfortable they really are. No wonder our boy likes to wear them. We don't let him wear them to school anymore because they look so shabby. We took them to a shoe hospital to see how long the repair would take, and they cost $30 - way too much considering how much we paid for them ($55) and how little they have kept (about 1 month). Our boy wore his Merrell Jungle Moc (brown, suede) shoes all through kindergarten and they didn't fall apart like the black leather Jungle moccasins. I will not buy again.
