Suitable for some but not for me

This is a great serger for the money. There are a number of great features such as a waste tray, thread color coding, a knife that fully retracts and extends so you can sew a sleeve or tight clothing. Some of the things I didn't like: While the color-coded threading was great, you still had to manually pinch a tiny area with your fingers to thread the loopers properly, and it was so easy to miss. Then there was the stuffing of needles! MY GOD! It was very difficult. There just isn't enough room for the thread to get into the eye of the needle. Speaking of needles, changing needles wasn't for the faint of heart. First, my husband had to make a lot of effort to unscrew the screws, hold needles the first time. They must have been torqued or something. Then the fear of dropping the needle was always present. I ended up spreading a piece of fabric all over the bed to keep the needle from falling into the mechanism. I would say I've dropped the needle at least 50% of the time trying to remove or add a needle. And while it was great that the knife can be removed if you don't want to trim the edges, again the first time it got stuck so tight I had to ask my husband to free it. After that it was easier. The biggest drawback for me was the quality of the seams. Brother has tension regulators for each filament, and the book says that the tension often needs to be adjusted to get the stitches a certain way. But that meant testing, testing, and more testing to find the right stitch. It would have been better to have just one setting to select rounded seams or blind stitches etc. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get these stitches to look decent and it could make the clothes look bad. The 3 and 4 thread overlock was pretty good and if I just wanted to neaten the seams I might be fine with this overlock. I could even live without a basement, but without a blind joint? You can't live without them. This is not to say that this is a bad Serge machine. For $220 you get a lot. As I said, this would be great for beginners or those who only need to finish the seams. It's worth it. But for me I was hoping for more and realized I would have to pay a lot more to get the car I wanted. Fortunately, I discovered this fact in Revain's returns window. (Got to love Revane Prime!) I just couldn't get these stitches to look decent and it might ruin the look of the outfit.
