Review on Samyang SY12M FX SIL Fujifilm X Mount Cameras by Mateusz Mazurkiewicz ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

3.5 years I've had this lens. Compatible with the Fujifilm X-E1 camera. The focus ring on this lens has a silky, slightly stiff "manual" rotation, indicating that it has been expertly manufactured. There is no lag or any issues with the metal mount. The lens has a plastic body. Unlike the hood on the standard 16–50, this one is mounted securely, stays put, and imparts a sense of dependability. When on the road, this was the primary lens of choice. This is a must-have for landscape and architectural photographers. The ability to take panoramic shots. Since geometric distortions are minimal, all you need to do to produce a picture with straight lines is line up the horizon. On the focus scale, the hyperfocal distance is denoted by a tick. A 1 meter to infinity sharpness at F8. It's impossible to concentrate under those circumstances. F11 aperture is completely unnecessary due to the lack of sharpness and contrast. Convenient for a genre portrait, with one caveat: the subject must be positioned dead center, as the foreground is severely stretched at the frame's outer boundaries due to perspective distortions. The front cover stays put securely only on standard-thickness protective filters, but it continuously flies off when using thin filters. This lens's rear cover fits securely when used with genuine Fujifilm. Native lens caps dangle from it. The lens is securely fastened to the camera, and the bayonet is expertly crafted.

Pros
  • This lens was created for use with mirrorless cameras. The size, quality, style, and craftsmanship of the hood all impressed me. High resolution between F2 and F8. Good retention of backlighting. There was no skewing of shapes.
Cons
  • My copy has a problem with apertures of F11 and above. Sharpness and contrast in the image degrade.
