the second worked better but kept reappearing as if the ink had run out.

This item was returned because it spilled ink all over the place and kept telling the printer it was empty so I sent it back and got another one. The second worked better but popped up like ink a few times. I took it out, put it back in and it miraculously reappeared. Not sure if they have an expiration date or if they are HP refills.
