So far, so good!

I have this Kensington laptop combination lock for my new ASUS U30JC-A1 and it has worked great so far. Good:========================================1. General Design/Construction This lock has a fairly thick 1.8m cable, which is enough to deter the occasional would-be thief who travels to coffee shops with cable cutters. The lock itself is made of stainless steel and is about two centimeters long. A nice design feature is that the part of the lock that attaches to the cable can actually spin in circles. This is fantastic because when connecting to a laptop, the cable can be oriented forwards or backwards. The four digital dials rotate easily, and there's a nice rubber pad on the end of the lock that faces the laptop to prevent scratches on the lock. One reviewer complained that the lock doesn't sit flush with the surface of the laptop, but I think it's better to have some play, otherwise you could easily damage the laptop or the security slot when the lock is turned down or to the side side is pressed. .2. I feel great leaving a notepad for a quick restroom visit or food/drink trip. The only way to remove this lock is to cut the rather thick cable, and this won't happen unless you're very careless or leave it alone for a significant amount of time. However, this is clearly just a deterrent and a highly motivated thief could probably throw it out of the laptop as the lock is fairly locked meaning it can be grabbed and pryed to pry it out of the laptop (resulting in destruction will lead). of the security system). lock of course).3. Combination & Keyless LockYes, not having to carry a lock is great!4. Tamper-Free "Off" Feature Some Kensington locks appear to have an ill-designed "feature" that renders the lock inoperable if someone tries to pick it. Of course, that means you have to call a locksmith to remove it, which is ridiculous. This lock, as far as I know, has no such function when picked (although tampering with the lock can simply jam or damage the lock). Not very good (or needs improvement): === ==================================== = == 1. Confusing initial setup Oh man, it was really confusing and frustrating to set up for the first time, including setting up a new combination code for the first time. After about 10 minutes of trying to decipher the cryptic instructions I finally figured it out and now I have no problems with it. 2. The locking mechanism Sometimes the locking mechanism doesn't want to release after unlocking (e.g. it gets stuck), but that doesn't happen often and it usually unlocks easily with a slight wiggle.3. It's not really a three-digit combination lock. As a previous reviewer commented, the lock mechanism appears (unlocked) immediately upon selecting the fourth number, negating the last number and making that lock truly three digits. While three digits is fine because no thief will try to open it, obviously theft will involve cutting the cable (or maybe ripping it out of the laptop). All in all, it's a nice little lock and well worth the price ($35 when I bought it). Highly recommended!
